Senior Chief Respiratory Physiologist

Job summary

We are looking to recruit a motivated, hard-working, professional and passionate deputy lead respiratory physiologist.

We are developing and expanding the services offered by the department and this is an opportunity to be part of that process.

Main duties of the job

As the Deputy Respiratory Lead, you will be expected to support the development and running of the respiratory service and liaise with the clinical modality lead and cardio-respiratory service manager.

You will be involved in the training of all junior staff including physiologists, medical and nursing. You will also have responsibility for departmental audits. We encourage self-development and support attendance at training courses to maintain CPD and enhance your knowledge. We want the successful applicant to have the ability to work independently and be competent in all aspects of respiratory tests including full lung function tests, polygraphy and CPAP.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent formal training and experience
  • ARTP Part I and II or equivalent
  • ILS resuscitation certificate

Desirable

  • Training or teaching qualification
  • ARTP Spirometry Certificate
  • ARTP CPAP Certificate

Skills, Knowledge and Competencies

Essential

  • Competent in performing / interpreting: Full lung function tests, Sleep studies, Overnight oximetry
  • Knowledge of sleep disorders and CPAP therapy
  • Computer literate with good presentation skills
  • Effective communication and delegation skills
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to work autonomously and to specific deadlines
  • Provide clinical supervision /mentorship for other staff

Desirable

  • Use of software including Breeze, Noxturnal, Visi-download and Care Orchestrator.
  • Competent in use of both fixed and auto titrating CPAP devices
  • Using the nitrogen washout method for performing static lung volumes
  • Managerial skills

Physical Skills

Essential

  • Adaptable to using new clinical software
  • Ability to travel to hospital sites using own or public transport.
  • Ability to work flexibly and reliably

Experience

Essential

  • At least 5 years post qualification experience with the range of respiratory investigations
  • Significant relevant experience and training in Respiratory Physiology
  • RCCP / AHCS registered or eligible for registration
  • Experience in training junior staff, including physiologists and other healthcare professionals
