Job summary
An
opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Biomedical Scientist to co-ordinate the
delivery of a quality Point of Care testing service across Warrington and
Halton Teaching Hospital NHS FT.
The
role is to coordinate, support and develop point of care testing across the
Trust, ensuring all devices are implemented and managed in accordance the UKAS
and Trust standards.
The service manages
approximately 200 pieces of equipment including a range of
Siemens Rapidlab Blood Gas analysers, Siemens EPOC blood analysis systems,
Abbott Freestyle precision pro glucose and ketone meters, Coaguchek INR meters
and Urylizer Pro 100 urinalysis meters. These devices are placed at
a number of locations and are connected via a third party IT solution to the
laboratory information system- CGM
The successful candidate will work 37.5 hours across the days Monday to Friday, howevera flexible attitude to work and willingness to adapt to changes in working practice is expected.
Main duties of the job
The
Point of care team within Biochemistry department serves 2 NHS hospitals:
Warrington Hospital and Halton Hospital, at Runcorn, in addition the Trust
hosts a new Community Diagnostic Centre on the Halton site. The primary base
will be Warrington, although you will be expected to work across all sites the
point of care service supports.
Key duties include the delivery of
training programs, troubleshooting, participation in the Trusts Medical
Devices Safety Group, researching and evaluating new technologies and the
implementation of new devices.
The post holder will be responsible
for the delivery of the quality management system to ensure compliance to UKAS
standards including preparation of documents, undertaking audits and the management
of the EQA programs, which compromises of the review, troubleshooting and
implementation of corrective action for the EQA reports for all devices.
The post holder must be able to
work autonomously, both as part of a small team and on their own, with
excellent organisational, communication and management skills and be highly motivated with an interest in providing high quality training
programs and a willingness to develop the point of care service.
An aptitude for problem solving is
essential as are IT skills as
these are integral to service delivery.
Experience in Point of care testing is
essential.

are Monday to Friday 9 am 5:30 pm. The department is approved for training by
the IBMS, and all staff are encouraged to participate in CPD.
The department is fully compliant to
ISO:15189 standards and has UKAS accreditation.
The
Pathology department operates a busy 24/7 365 service supporting the Acute
Trust and Primary care. Core hours are 9 am 5:30 pm. The department is
approved for training by the IBMS, and all staff are encouraged to participate
in CPD.
The department is fully compliant to
ISO:15189 standards and has UKAS accreditation.
The Point of Care are working with the
Community Diagnostic Hub and Virtual ward teams to establish point of care to
support their services.
