Applications are invited from highly
motivated and forward-thinking nurses wanting the opportunity to develop in the
role of Haematology Clinical Nurse specialist/Advanced Clinical Practitioner.
The post has been developed to provide the opportunity of career progression
within the specialty. You will be a member of the multi-professional team
providing specialist nursing and medical support to patients and their families
with haematological conditions.
You must be a committed innovative
individual with a positive approach to both personal and service
development. A Registered Nurse with 3
years post registration experience and preferably some proven experience in
Haematology/Oncology you must be qualified to degree level or have a portfolio
of relevant experience.
Service development is key to the role
and therefore we are looking for a nurse who has vision and the ability to
influence services at a clinical and strategic level.

Main duties of the job
To work
in partnership with nurses and other health professionals to address peoples
health needs through planning and delivering interventions which are based on
best practice and clinical judgement.
To
develop and provide a coordinated specialist service to patients with
haematological malignancies and their carers and to have direct clinical
involvement in complex care in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
To
provide a supporting role with bone marrow aspirates, administering
chemotherapy, taking blood and venesections.
To
receive direct referrals within the specialty and to provide expert assessment
of patients needs.
About us
The PIU (Programmed
Investigation Unit) is based at Halton Hospital and provides a day ward for
patients that need to be admitted for blood transfusion, platelet transfusion,
chemotherapy, i.v therapy, venesection, and clotting factor replacement.
It is a
very busy ward with a wide cohort of patients run by a Lead Clinical Haematology
nurse specialist and a dedicated team of nurses.
