Warrington and Halton NHS Teaching and Foundation Trust has
an exciting opportunity for current and/or newly qualified Physicians
Associates in Emergency Medicine within our Trust.
We are looking for candidates who have excellent
team-working skills with the abilities and professional skills to develop into
a senior member of our clinical teams under the supervision of our Specialty
Consultants. PAs are an established part of the ED workforce in Warrington. The
Emergency Department at Warrington has 12 Physician Associates of various
experience and you will be joining this dedicated and enthusiastic team. We
have seven band 7 PAs and 4 band 6 PAs. This role is to work alongside the
existing workforce, offering the exciting opportunity to develop new skills and
build on your expertise.
The successful candidate will possess a Post Graduate
Diploma/MSc in Physician Associate Studies from one of the UK Physician
Associate Programmes or equivalent and will be registered with the FPA.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work
as a Band 6 (Band 7 for those giving evidence of a satisfactory competency
assessment as er the RCP-PA guidance) Physician Associate in the Emergency Department.
Working within the multidisciplinary teams, the successful applicant will be
required to perform initial assessments , initiate the diagnostic process,
interpret investigations and recommend the initial treatment as well as keeping
accurate and contemporaneous records. There will also be opportunity to teach
both Medical and PA students.

The role of Physician Associate has been
well established within the ED for the past 7 years. These posts will add to
our existing establishment of 11 PAs. The PAs form an integral part of the ED
team.
The PAs work on a full shift rota
including weekends and nights.
You will be expected to work alongside
junior doctors and nurses to help deliver high standards of care. You will receive close supervision, teaching,
training, and mentorship enabling you to embed core skills, knowledge and
competencies.
You will need to have excellent
communication and team working skills, be enthusiastic and have a strong drive
to develop your clinical skills
Physician Associates will provide expert assistance to Medical Workforce
in their specialty and the wider multidisciplinary team and will participate in
all aspects of the teams activities as appropriate. They will be expected to
perform delegated duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge and
to assist in clinical teaching and supervision of colleagues and students.
The post holder will recognise the importance of the multidisciplinary
team in delivering a high quality, patient centred service. They will be accountable for ensuring that
patient care is always of a high standard and that standards of care and
treatment meet their departments requirements.
Physician Associates will be supervised by a designated Consultant with
individual mentorship to oversee career development.
The post holder will possess, develop, and maintain extensive
specialist knowledge and experience in the department, acting as a resource for
the clinical team and allied health professionals.
Physician Associates will represent the department at local and
external meetings as appropriate.
