There are two opportunities available, one based at Warrington Hospital and one based at Halton Hospital.
Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHs Foundation Trust are seeking to recruit a suitably experienced Multi-Skilled Maintenance Craftsperson - Mechanical, to join our estates department.
The post holder will be mechanically biased, have the skills and knowledge to work as part of the estates team to deliver a comprehensive estates maintenance service, ensuring compliance with Trust standards, procedures, and legislation across the estate portfolio.

Main duties of the job
To undertake reactive and planned maintenance, service, test and inspection of complex engineering plant and equipment, such as heating and ventilation, water systems and other mechanical systems, ensuring they are maintained to a high standard and in compliance with statutory regulations.
You will work alongside other trades to deliver a quality service using CAFM and other specialist software systems. You will join our out-of-hours on call service for which you will receive additional payments.

- To work in accordance with the requirements of HTMs, HBNs, British Standards, Model Specifications and all Statutory Regulations, Codes of Practice and Trust Policies and Procedures.
- To Hold Appointed Person status for one or more specialist disciplines having been signed off by the Trusts Authorising Engineer on behalf of the Trust. This status must be maintained via CPD and re-registration every 3 years or as appropriate.
- The post holder will be responsible for issuing permits for work to external contractors allowing work on Trust specialist plant and equipment and to manage contractors working on behalf of the Trust.
- To be prepared to work in hazardous areas taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment in compliance with all relevant Regulations and Health & Safety Procedures.
- To actively participate in the operation and control of engineering planned maintenance schemes.
- Participate in a On Call Service Rota providing services for all hours.
- Actively participate in the operation of the Trusts labour control scheme by working within the scheme including completion of all paperwork required of the scheme. (Including completion of all job dockets and time sheets). Including the use of the Trusts computer aided facilities management software.
- To undertake monitoring and operation of the Building Management System (BMS).
- Frequent requirement to exert moderate physical effort for several long periods when lifting or moving equipment.
- High concentration level required for fault finding, inspections and interruptions to deal with emergencies.
- Carry out all multi-trade works i.e. water, sewerage, electricity, medical gases, building works that are involved in building services equipment that uses all services, such as steam infrastructure, water, reverse osmosis water, wastewater and or effluent.
- Ability to prioritise changing workloads.
- May occasionally be required to work or assist in areas of hazardous nature i.e. gas leak, steam leak, LV working, foul waste systems.
- Problem solves technical issues, fault diagnosis and solution finding, assess safety situation/analysis and diagnosis of faults in complex, multi-faceted equipment.
- Plans and schedules major interruptions, maintenance activities and manages the work of contractors and other staff.
- Proposes changes to protocols and procedures, contributes to policy development.
- Carry out and document planned maintenance tasks and emergency works on our own authority/initiative where necessary.
- Manage the implementation of electrical safety, steam safety, water safety, (dosing etc. for drinking/potable water, chemical dosing for boilers, and regeneration of water softeners etc. programmes.
- Maintain, run and repair complex equipment e.g. boilers, steam boilers, RO equipment, in several areas on the site, fire detection equipment, chiller plants, air handling plant, air tubes system, fault finding and repair at a complex level for integrated systems e.g. water, RO water, steam, electricity etc. nurse call systems, generators, lifts, requiring a high level of concentration, knowledge and responsibility.
- Part of the lift response and release team with authority to release passengers safely.
- Liaise directly with Trust staff in order to assess and carry out emergency works without supervision.
- Undertake condition surveys and acceptance testing of new equipment.
- Work within maintenance procedures and safety standards.
- Ability to carry out priority work requirements on essential patient equipment used in patient care package and having a direct impact detrimentally to the whole patient experience i.e. nurse call handsets, patient toilets/wash facilities, patient beds and patient hoists.
- Ability to carry out works in areas requiring emotional sensitivity e.g. mortuary, childrens ward, general wards and ITU.
- Provide technical advice and support on electrical, mechanical and building services to contractors and in-house staff, on all works as required.

- Undertake fault finding on complex critical systems and equipment using cause effect analysis and detailed examination to gain a solution.
