We are seeking a highly motivated electrically biased professional individual to work full time over 5 days to assist a multi -skilled team of tradespersons in carrying out the maintenance of building services, plant and equipment within a range of healthcare buildings.

Main duties of the job

To provide day to day reactive repairs on the hospital electrical infrastructure and Preventive Planned maintenance including electrical distribution systems, lighting, BMS, motors, fire alarm testing, generator testing and nurse call systems and hold the position of Authorised Person for (LV) low voltage systems HTM 06-02.

You will also participate in the out of hours on-call service to ensure all services are maintained at a high standard of operation

About us

At Warrington & Halton Hospitals we have a dedicated Estates department maintaining all areas of building services and grounds. We operate 5 days a week and provide on-call services out of hours for 365 days of the year.

Essential

  • Capable of working in a demand driven service
  • Working to deadlines and Technical Profiles
  • Availability for out of hours working as required and at short notice depending on the demands of the Trust
  • Participate in a 24/7 On Call Service

Working Conditions

Essential

  • The post holder will be exposed to noisy environments which are subject to extremes of temperature
  • The postholder will be required to work in, and come into contact with hazardous areas such as isolation rooms, live drains, contaminated filters etc

Qualifications

Essential

  • BTEC, ONC, City & Guilds in an Electrical discipline acquired through an accredited training provider achieved via a recognised apprenticeship
  • 18th Edition IET Regs
  • NVQ Level 4 and / or equivalent experience plus relevant additional training
  • Authorised Persons (AP) in one or more Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) with relevant Level 5 qualification signed off by Trust Authorising Engineer
  • Evidence of CPD with current legislative training certification updates
  • AP status to be maintained through CPD and 3 yearly accreditation

Desirable

  • NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent

Mental & Emotional Effort

Essential

  • The post holder will be required to concentrate for long periods to diagnose faults on complex equipment and plant
  • The post holder will have to concentrate under pressure during emergency situations when working on patient critical services
  • During out of hours call out periods, when sleep is disturbed, the post holder will be required to respond and concentrate to resolve issues
  • The post holder will frequently witness medical emergencies during day to day activities and be required to work in areas such as the mortuary and ITU and live theatres during operations

Skills, Knowledge & Competencies

Essential

  • Good communication skills
  • Work in accordance with various Technical Standards
  • Ability to work without supervision
  • Ability to supervise contractors and other Trust staff
  • Ability to write formal risk assessments as part of project management reports
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to complete management reports and financial reports for project management on small projects

physical Skills and Effort

Essential

  • Using a wide variety of hand or powered tools that can be of an intricate nature to fault find, diagnose and repair a wide range of hospital equipment, e.g., electrical control panels, instrument washers, autoclaves, gas equipment etc
  • The post holder must be able to work safely at height
  • The post holder will be required to move heavy equipment and plant frequently to carry out repairs this will require intense physical effort for long periods during shifts

Experience

  • Accredited, apprentice trained and extensive experience in management of people and specialist technical resources
  • In depth knowledge and experience of the Health Technical Memoranda, ACOPs, Health and Safety at Work Act and all relevant legislation

  • Experience of working in hospital environment
