This is a great opportunity to become part of a large, forward thinking Orthoptic team at North Cheshire and Mersey NHS Foundation Trust.
The team consists of 15 Orthoptists who deliver core Orthoptic clinics and support a wide variety of Ophthalmology clinics. In addition, the team undertake advanced and extended roles in stroke, neuro-ophthalmology, paediatric-ophthalmology, glaucoma, injection clinics, VPD and SEN.
The wider Ophthalmology team consists of 9 Optometrists, 7 Consultant Ophthalmologists, 3 SAS doctors. Warrington is also a teaching site and have 4 surgical trainees.
There is a close working relationship with the nursing, optometry, imaging, medical and administrative teams.
There are ample opportunities for further development and training and Orthoptists have protected clinical admin and CPD time.
This is a part time position, covering maternity leave.
Main duties of the job
The role includes core orthoptic clinics, supporting paediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus clinics, community clinics and supporting casualty clinics.
Orthoptic clinics are undertaken at Warrington Hospital and various community clinics in the area including a brand-new health hub located in Runcorn Shopping City. Ability to travel to sites is part of the role, however where possible staff stay in one location each day.
The role is a band 5 Orthoptist therefore we would welcome applications from new graduates along with those with prior experience. New graduates will be expected to undertake a thorough preceptorship and will be given time and support to undertake this.
We are a teaching hospital and regularly take orthoptic undergraduates from The University of Liverpool.
Clinical audit is expected and training and support will be provided.
We are looking for a team player who is looking to further develop and enhance their skills in Orthoptics and the wider ophthalmology service.
