Job summary
To provide a comprehensive secretarial service to Breast Consultant(s) and Departmental Team, within the general procedures laid down for the department. The confidential nature of all work concerning patients must be understood and safeguarded. The medical secretary is part of a team and must regard the interests of the patient as paramount and as such must be aware of the Data Protection Act (1998) and be aware of the consequences of the failure to comply with it.
Main duties of the job
1. To type back with Trust timescales (from audio/digital/voice recognition) Outpatient letters/discharge letters and dispatch signed letters to post and return medical records to the library promptly.2. To keep a diary for the consultant and arrange/remind consultant of appointments/meetings. Arrange appointments for visitors including drug representatives, outside normal outpatient clinic sessions.3. To ensure compliance with 18-week pathway by entering correct outcome code onto hospital information system as per consultant direction. To complete necessary, Inter Provider Transfer for patients referred to other organisations and ensure appropriate 18-week code updated.
