Job summary

The post holder will form part of the Switchboard team, predominantly to work out of hours in the evenings and overnights, weekends and some day shifts. The Switchboard service operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an As & When Telephonist to become part of a fast-paced dynamic Switchboard team. The post holder will be responsible for operating the hospital switchboard answering all incoming and outgoing calls in a timely and efficient manner. Responsible to be involved in all associated procedures within the Switchboard environment, responding to all emergency alarms whilst remaining calm, concise, and polite under pressure. The post holder will be required to perform in an environment where the work pattern is unpredictable and to demonstrate flexibility with their availability.

About us

The Trusts Switchboard team provides a vital service to staff, patients and their relatives and provide a professional customer service 24/7 365 days a year. In house training will be provided to deal with all aspects of Switchboard duties.

Essential

  • Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent

Desirable

  • ECDL or equivalent computer literacy

Experience

Essential

  • Use of a telephone switchboard, within the last 5 years
  • Work in a customer-care environment

Desirable

  • Experience of Working on an Acute Hospital switchboard

Skills, Knowledge and Competencies

  • Basic IT skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Customer Care Training
  • Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations
  • Ability to work without direct supervision using initiative
  • Able to work shifts and unsocial hours which includes lone working
