Associate Practitioner Point of Care Testing

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen in the Point of Care testing team within the Pathology service for an additional Associate Practitioner Point of Care Testing post.

The new post holder needs to be highly motivated to learn and develop skills in point of care testing and must have the interpersonal skills to carry out training of all grades of staff outside the Laboratory to fulfil the role effectively.

The successful candidate would work Monday to Friday, with core hours 9:00 to 17:30 however some flexibility is required.

The role is to support the Point of care team in the delivery of training, maintenance of analysers and supporting the use of the point of care devices across the Trust and other Stakeholder locations.

Full training will be provided, experience in Point of Care is not essential.

Main duties of the job

- Training staff of all grades in the use of all POCT devices

-Support, Maintain and trouble all POCT devices

- Support with all aspects of quality related to point of care

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot all existing POCT devices across all sites of the Trust
  • Conduct training for all POCT devices as required (after suitable instruction), both for groups and single learners of all grades of Trust staff, by following the established training protocols and SOPs
  • Perform tasks using the POCT software management systems (POCcelerator, RapidComm) including operator management, device surveillance, data capture and reagent management
  • Perform EQA receipt, distribution and analysis for POCT devices as required
  • Carry out EQA Result entry into the appropriate scheme software
  • Be able to utilise the Microsoft Office Suite of programs to facilitate the day to day running of the POCT service
  • Answer queries via telephone and in person to assist Trust personnel in POCT matters
  • Carry out audit as directed
  • Use the Q Pulse system for document control and recording of non-conformances as required
  • Work without direct supervision including travelling to all sites as required
  • Liaise with external agencies (suppliers, other health providers) as appropriate
  • Represent the Pathology Department with regard to POCT matters in a professional and approachable manner
