We have a vacancy for a part time Health Care Support Worker to come and join our theatre team; The post holder will actively support our multi-disciplinary theatre team in providing the best quality Peri-operative care to the people of Warrington and Halton.

We offer a wide range of surgical specialties Ophthalmic, Orthopedics & Trauma, General surgery including Colorectal, Upper GI, Gynecology, Breast, ENT & Urology as well as providing 24-hour emergency surgery, Obstetrics & Critical care services for one of Europe's and the UK's fastest growing and most vibrant towns.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties of the Role

As a successful candidate you will be an integral part of the peri-operative care team providing support to Registered Clinicians and Practitioners

You will be expected to perform routine circulating tasks and to anticipate the needs of the scrubbed practitioner.

You will need to have a range of competent skills including basic IT & administration as well as knowledge and skill to safely prepare and handle medical and domestic equipment under qualified supervision in order to facilitate the smooth preparation of the Operating Theatre and be part of the efficient running of a daily elective or emergency surgery list.

You will be required to transfer equipment and patients between locations. An example might be assisting our Recovery team to transfer patients back to the ward following surgery.

Our Health Care Support Workers will be expected to possess excellent communication and team working qualities.

Health Care Support workers will be team players with a flexible attitude to the service requirements. To refer enquiries via the Theatre Team Leader (or designated Leader) to the appropriate area. This role involves communicating effectively, in an empathic way, with patients/clients at a particularly vulnerable part of the care episode.

To utilise acquired theatre support skills to carry out the role of circulating personnel.

To use acquired knowledge of workplace to undertake the requirements of the role.

To work within limits of competency and level of training, to participate in the Performance Development

The base level of knowledge for this role is the successful completion of the WHH Trust Support Carer Core and Theatre Competencies as well as holding the Care Certificate

To perform routine circulating personnel tasks. To anticipate the needs of the scrubbed practitioner This includes opening sterile packaging (instrumentation, peel packs, fluid dispensing units) whilst maintaining the integrity of the product.

Skills required include basic keyboard skills and skills in setting-up of operating tables and attachments.

Transfer of items between locations. An example might be transfer of medical devices and instrumentation sets within the department or to other areas of the Hospital.

Whilst this post does not hold specific responsibility for undertaking surveys, reports or Audit, the post holder will be expected to support colleagues with these responsibilities.
