Job summary

Warrington & Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to offer an outstanding opportunity for 1 full-time Consultant General Radiologist with a specialist interest in breast imaging (less than full time contract would be considered) to join the team of 17 Consultant Radiologists.

The work will comprise of mainly general, cross-sectional, mammography reporting and symptomatic and assessment breast clinics and cancer localisations. Well established radiographer advanced practice in the breast service supports the consultants in the delivery of the service. Attendance at breast MDT is expected and participation in another clinicoradiological meeting is encouraged. The Breast Care Centre was relocated to adequately service the screening and symptomatic needs of our population, into a purpose-built unit in July 2021 at the non-acute Halton Hospital site in Runcorn, approximately 10 miles away from the acute hospital in Warrington.

Main duties of the job

A full range of radiological services are available at WHHFT including Interventional Radiology, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, CT/MR, DEXA and Cardiac Catheter Suite. There are 4 multi-slice CT Scanners, 3 MRI Scanners, a gamma/SPECT camera and a comprehensive ultrasound and plain radiography service. You will also add a contribution to general radiology and be part of a 1:15 on-call rota at Warrington Hospital. WHH is part of the Cheshire and Merseyside Radiology Collaborative On-call Network, with Carestream PACS and RIS systems installed. The collaboration enables on call CT reporting to be performed by the on-call hub, staffed by the trainees in the region with consultant addenda provided following checking the next morning to maintain safe standards. There may be also opportunities for home reporting.

The Trust is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in association with the University of Liverpool and up to 8 Specialist trainees are attached to the department at a time. The Trust comprises two hospitals, Warrington (acute) and Halton (non-acute) with the latter consisting of 2 separate buildings on the campus: Captain Sir Tom Moore Building and the Nightingale Building. The Breast Care Centre resides in the Captain Sir Tom Moore Building, which is the most modern of all the Trust's facilities.
