Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for either a Secondment or Fixed Term contract (end date 11th September 2026) working as the Ward Manager for Jasmine Lodge, Mother and Baby Unit.

The Ward Manager on Jasmine Lodge provides leadership and management to the clinical team on the ward, delivering high quality care to the Mothers and Babies who use our Service.

Jasmine Lodge is an acute 8-bedded Unit designed to support women in their recovery during a period of ill perinatal mental health.

We are looking for an experienced individual who has a passion for perinatal mental health and can bring warmth, leadership and operational oversight at this level.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide leadership and management to the Mother & Baby Unit (MBU) and clinical team.
  • To provide evidenced based professional support and advice to the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To lead and promote education and staff development for the continued professional growth of the team members and students.
  • To ensure the delivery of high standards of nursing care in accordance with evidence based professional practice, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure legislation policies and procedures are implemented and staff have access to them and an understanding of their use.
  • Manages allocated budget ensuring resources are efficiently and effectively used and maintained.

  • Responsible for the setting of quality standards including monitoring and reviewing in line with current clinical guidance, practice and policy.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 & 2007 are implemented, observed and adhered to.
  • Responsible for the establishment and monitoring of evidence based therapeutic interventions with appropriate boundaries for service users.
  • To take lead role in the developments and provision of social / therapeutic activities for mothers, babies & infants, working with other professionals to provide individualised programmes.

  • To actively participate in audit activities in the ward as directed by the Perinatal Service Manager, service / care delivery requirements.

  • To explore innovative ways of delivering and improving mothers, babies & infants care.
  • To critically evaluate research findings.
  • To maintain an enquiring approach to patient care ensuring current and evidence based practice is the basis of care / treatment provision.

  • Responsible for commenting on and the development where appropriate of Trust Clinical Policies within their sphere of responsibility.
