Job summary
Are you passionate about supporting individuals with health vulnerabilities transitioning from the criminal justice system?
Do you have lived experience and a desire to make a real difference in people's lives?
As a Peer Support Worker in the Reconnect service, you will play a crucial role in helping individuals navigate their recovery journey after involvement in the criminal justice system. You will work alongside clinical and support staff, providing practical and emotional support, guiding individuals in overcoming challenges and empowering them to make positive changes in their lives.
We are seeking a peer support worker to work within the Reconnect Service. This is now part of the new, 7 year contract of INCS which brings together the previously separately commissioned services of Liaison and Diversion, Reconnect and Mental Health treatment Requirements.
The Reconnect service works to support individuals who have health vulnerabilities and are being released from prison. The service works to engage with individuals supporting them to integrate back into community and access appropriate services with the aim of reducing their vulnerabilities and the risk of reoffending.
The role of peer support worker has been developed specifically for people who have lived experience of the criminal justice process and mental health challenges. Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, peer support workers will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others.
Main duties of the job

The PSW will act as a recovery champion within the team and an ambassador of recovery for the Trust with external agencies and partner organisations. There is also an expectation that PSWs will be involved in the on-going development of the role. As a core member of the multidisciplinary team, the PSW will work alongside an agreed number of service users on a 1:1 basis. The PSW will take a lead role in embedding recovery values within the service setting in which they work with other Trust recovery champions. Reporting directly to the team manager and under the supervision nurse of the support time recovery worker. The PSW will be responsible for the delivery of peer support interventions as agreed within the peer relationship.
