Job summary

We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated full time Band 7 Specialist Clinical Lead to join us at this very exciting time, working across our 2 developing community perinatal teams in Devon, Exeter and Barnstable.

Devon Perinatal Service has long been long established and is proud to be accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

The Community Perinatal Service has undertaken a significant expansion over the past 18 months which has created an ability to offer more families access to specialist perinatal expertise. This exciting role was new to the service and continues to be developing which the successful applicant would be able to help shape and evolve.

You would be joining a cohesive multi disciplinary leadership group where you would be supported to embed into your role. We offer a comprehensive induction package and are able to access training that is relevant to your role.

Our work can be challenging and requires excellent risk management skills and a knowledge of safeguarding protocols ensuring thoughtfulness of the unborn and other children in the family at all times.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be central to the functioning and ongoing development of the CommunityPerinatal Service that covers Devon. The Specialist Clinical Lead will work with women and birthing people who are experiencing antenatal severe mental health presentations and 2 years postnatal. They will support the duty workers across Devon to prioritise assessments. This will involve delivering a clinically safe care pathway for women in the community and co-ordinating care for those women/birthing people who require hospital admission in the 12-24 month postnatal period, seeing ensuring high quality co-ordinated care at all times.

They will ensure the delivery of these services is in accordance with clear governance arrangements within the directorate which will include taking a lead clinical role in an area of service effectiveness. They will provide effective professional clinical leadership through appropriate modelling of behaviours and skills and/or direct supervision.

They will also be required to act as an autonomous senior clinician, being accountable for a defined caseload across the county which will involve developing good working relationships & care pathways across primary & secondary care services.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency environment
  • Extensive experience of managing a busy caseload of clients with a range of mental health problems.
  • Substantial experience of working at a senior clinical level.
  • Working within a community mental health setting in either the statutory or voluntary sector.

Desirable

  • Providing clinical supervision and managing staff.
  • Setting up or working within a new service.
  • Experience of managing and developing services

Qualifications

  • A professional mental health nursing qualification eg RMN, Nursing Degree, Qualified Occupational Therapist or Social Worker with extensive mental health experience.
  • Post graduate qualification relevant to specialism or commitment to work towards.
