Job summary

We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic, highly motivated Band 3 Support Workers to work within the East & Mid Devon Home Treatment Team based in Exeter.

As this role will require working in the community you must have the ability to travel to meet the requirements of the role.

Main duties of the job

We are a Home Treatment Team comprising of Clinical Team Manager, Senior Mental Health Practitioners, Support Workers, Consultant Psychiatrist and Business Support Administrators. We work with people experiencing severe mental illness who are in acute mental health crisis.

Under the daily supervision of mental health practitioners, the post holder will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to support the delivery of recovery care plans for clients with a range of mental health presentations in the community. This will involve working across agencies e.g. Primary Care, Complex Care Teams and Third sector organisations.

The post holder will work intensively with people to support them in their home, preventing hospital admission and facilitating hospital discharge.

The post holder will be expected to work to a clearly defined personal recovery plan outlining their role and the range of interventions required. This will include a significant monitoring role of people on behalf of the team.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Basic Education.
  • To complete the Care Certificate within the first 6 months of employment unless already obtained or evidence of equivalent agreed and signed off by the appointing manager at interview. If not, this will be a trainee position until successful completion.
  • Experience of working within mental health community and/or inpatient settings.

Desirable

  • NVQ level 3, QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification.
  • Other evidence of training or development relevant to working within mental health settings.

Experience

Essential

  • Previous employment / experience of working with people in a caring situation or previous experience working in a different role within mental health services
  • Awareness of safeguarding principles.
  • Experience of working within a MDT
  • Excellent IT skills

Desirable

  • Knowledge of mental health and a basic understanding of physical health presentations.
  • Experience of monitoring physical health
  • Experience of delivering interventions such as distress tolerance.
  • Previous care experience with people who have Mental Health difficulties.

  • Ability to travel to meet the requirements of the role across multiple locations through the East and Mid Devon areas.

  • Able to plan work, time management, completing records and recording observations etc.
