Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a substantive full time band 5 Occupational Therapist to join the team on Meadow View Ward at North Devon District Hospital.
We are looking for an individual who has the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team, have sound decision making skills and effective clinical reasoning.
The successful applicant will be required to demonstrate excellent assessment and interpersonal skills, supporting patients and their families through shared decision making, to make informed choices about their treatment and conditions.
You will need to manage a defined clinical caseload, using evidence based and client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate OT interventions for service users who are vulnerable and have complex needs.
The role will require working within a variety of clinical settings including peoples own homes and work settings as well as a variety of other community locations as relevant.
You will work within the multi-disciplinary team, with carers, other services and agencies to promote mental health and wellbeing, independence, community inclusion and occupational participation for service users, via assessment, care planning, individual interventions and training
The role will need you to contribute to the supervision of support staff and students as requested by the Senior Occupational Therapist and, to service development in line with the Trust and Directorate organisational objectives.
Main duties of the job
- Organising and planning own caseload and managing time effectively to fit with service needs/demands.
- Participate in clinical/professional meetings, contribute to service planning and management of operational issues as appropriate.
- Assess the service users occupational challenges, plan and implement appropriate individual and/or group OT interventions in collaboration. Enable service users participation through the use of evidence based interventions.
- Ensure accurate, up to date written and electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with professional and Trust standards, including report writing as required.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of current techniques and approaches in OT and work within best practice and national guidance within the clinical area.
- Network with peers to maintain professional links across the Trust.
- Report any issues of health and safety following Trust guidelines and policies.
- Order/monitor and maintain any stock requirements in liaison with the ward manager/senior OT.
- Undertake management of petty cash transactions as per Trust Financial Standing Orders/Procedures.
- Ensure resources are used safely and efficiently.
- Contribute to the supervision of support staff and education of OT students including assisting with the induction of new staff, students and staff training as appropriate.
