Psychiatrist post on Salus Ward, South Devon and Torbay Mental Health
Centre, Torbay Hospital caring for adults of working age and
comprises a 16 bed mixed gender unit.

This post is suitable as a first time NHS consultant, or an
existing or post-retirement consultant with a broad level of general adult
psychiatric expertise. International candidates are welcome to apply.
Experience of working in adult acute inpatient mental health services is
preferable but support will be given to doctors wishing to move from other
psychiatric specialties or roles. Approved Clinician status is preferable but
those who would be eligible eg doctors applying from abroad, will be supported
to obtain this authority.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant
will offer assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients being managed informally
and those detained under the Mental Health Act in the capacity of Responsible
Clinician. They will also provide leadership to the wider urgent and inpatient
care pathway and participate in ensuring the care flow of patients through the
Trust is efficient and patient centred. You will take part in the on-call rota and other
consultants from the area will be expected to provide cross-cover for leave.
The post holderwill have a dedicated private office with PC/laptop accessibility. A medical secretary will be provided and you will be well supported by a dedicated full-time medical staffing department. There are currently two junior doctors and a trainee Multi Professional Approved Clinician (MPAC) based on the ward.

By optimising circulation and creating a compact ward with excellent sightlines, the design enhances navigation and fosters a sense of progression for patients. Individuals based in Salus Ward also enjoy captivating views of Dartmoor, carefully integrated into the design through planned vistas visible from both the courtyard and patient bedrooms.
