An exciting opportunity to join the team initially at the Additional Support Unit (ASU) in Exeter for Adults with a Learning Disability and then at the new Regional Learning Disability and Autism Unit in Dawlish from mid 2025 (The Brook).
In partnership
with the Open University, we are offering suitable candidates the training and
support they need to start working as a Nursing Apprentice. Youll join us as a
Nursing Apprentice and undertake an accelerated programme or either 18 months
for qualified Nurse Associates or 24 months qualified Assistant Practitioners
to top up your currently qualification to the Learning
Disability Nursing Degree .
You
will also need to be prepared to work hard and undertake study in your own time
as you work towards becoming a qualified Nurse.

The academic programme is due to commence February 2025 however, we would expect staff to be in post before this date
Nursing apprentices completing the accelerated programme will be paid
based on their current Agenda for Change Band 4 scale starting at £26540 and will remain at this rate until qualification as a Registered
Mental Health Nurse.

The job description attached to this advert is for a Band 5 Registered
Nurse which is the qualification you will be working towards. You will be asked
sign a Trust Learning Agreement when you commence the Programme which will
amend the job description to become an Apprentice.
Supervision and support, (direct and indirect) will be provided or available to you during all tasks, with progression being dependenton the completion of set objectives throughout the programme. This will enable the apprentice to work within the organisationto gain confidence, experience and build a portfolio of evidence for apprenticeship accreditation.
Job Purpose
- To assess care needs, develop, implement and evaluate individual care plans.
- To provide named nurse role to people who use our service.
- To promote and improve quality of service provided.
- To manage the unit in the absence of Ward Manager / Team Leader
- To participate in the internal rotation system including weekend working
Duties and Responsibilities
- To be a proactive, skilled member of the ward Multi-Disciplinary team
- To have knowledge and experience of providing individual and group clinical/therapy work.
- To demonstrate effective leadership and assist with providing advice and guidance to non qualified staff and students.
- To be responsible for the provision and maintenance of effective therapeutic relationships, which at all times acknowledges the rights, personal dignity and encourages opportunity for growth and development of the person using this service.
- To provide cross cover to other units located on the same site when there is a clinical need.
- To work in line with agreed safeguarding protocols at all times
