Ward Manager

Devon Partnership NHS Trust

The closing date is 21 October 2024

Job summary

We are looking for a Ward Manager to join our friendly nursing team within our Adult Services Directorate in Torbay to provide operational leadership for Salus Ward.

You will become part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team, using your skills, experience and leadership to help define and deliver a package of care to people on one of our mixed gender wards that helps them on their road to recovery. The role is dynamic and challenging and we are looking for someone who is highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic who can demonstrate an eagerness for the on-going development of the service.

As a Ward Manager, you will need excellent communication and leadership skills to ensure collaborative work with patients, utilising the well-being and recovery model, to provide the highest quality of care.

You will have the confidence and skills to support your team to respond to both the physical and mental well-being needs of your patients in partnership with a multi-disciplinary team and be a strong advocate for your patients. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate sound experience of risk assessment and management and will be committed to the principles of patient and carer involvement; as well as showing expertise in budgetary management and being able to understand and meet performance criteria.

Main duties of the job

You will be a Registered Nurse (Mental Health) with post registration experience, including significant experience in a Band 6 position. In return we offer a highly supportive and cohesive multidisciplinary team with a wide range of opportunities to further develop your abilities and career.

You will have experience of working in a team. The role involves communication, so we expect that you have excellent verbal and written skills.

Interacting with patients and the public you will be confident in giving non-clinical information and advice that improves their experience. Dealing with sensitive information daily, you will understand the importance of data security.

You will often work under pressure and without direct supervision, so we are looking for someone confident and capable. You will prioritise tasks, and manage your own workload, providing support for your colleagues where required.

You will become an important part of the team, working to ensure that every patient receives high quality care. You may be required to support the induction of new staff member, demonstrating activities to them and providing supervision to support administrators.
