Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Inpatient Psychology Service at Langdon Hospital for an appropriately qualified Band 7 Practitioner Psychologist.
Trainees who are nearing completion of their training will also be considered for a Band 6 training role. Upon successful qualification, the post holder will then be eligible for the Band 7 role.
You will work as part of an innovative Psychology Team which provides specialist Psychological work to patients at Langdon Hospital, with the opportunity to work across the directorate.
The Psychology Team at Langdon include experienced and enthusiastic Clinical, Forensic, Counselling Psychologists, Psychotherapists and Arts Therapists, Trainee Psychologists and a team of Assistant Psychologists, one each for our 5 wards across the Medium and Low Secure estate.
Forensic mental health settings provide an enviable clinical environment in which to pursue clinical interests and develop specialism in areas such as risk assessment, offence focused work, individual or group work, trauma, psychosis, personality and relational difficulties, as well as cognitive and developmental difficulties. The work can involve a range of assessment and therapeutic approaches, modalities and timeframes.
Main duties of the job
- Providing a Psychology service to people resident on Langdon Hospital's various Inpatient wards as a key component of services provided by Devon Partnership NHS Trust
- Providing local clinical leadership, co-ordination and supervision for trainees and volunteers employed by or attached to the psychology service under the general direction and supervision of the Professional Lead
- Carrying a specialist caseload of clients and providing advice and consultancy to patients, family members, carers and professionals
- To provide clinical supervision and consultation to wider multi-disciplinary teams as part of integrated mental health team working
- The post holder will be supported by senior colleagues within their specialist field and expected to make good use of the expertise of others within the service to further develop their clinical skills with this client group
- To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service/local team
- The post holder will receive regular professional and clinical supervision in accordance with Trust policy and Professional Practice Guidelines set out by the British Psychological Society or appropriate designated Professional Body. Observe and abide by all relevant Professional Codes of Conduct and Practise including the British Psychological Society. The post holder will be fully registered with the Health Professions Council as a condition of employment.
