As we expand our pathway we are looking for 2 Specialist
Practitioner and Supervisors to join our Mental Health Support Teams pathway.
We currently have an opportunity within our Torbay team for 4 days (30 hours)
per week and an opportunity within our Mid Devon team for up to 5 days per
week.
We are seeking supervisors with either a core qualification (teaching,
social worker, nursing, accredited counsellor etc) or with a CWP/EMHP
qualification alongside substantial experience within the role. We are looking
for applicants to have substantial experience of working with children and
adolescents within an education and/or health setting.
The role will include a part-time 1-year Post-Graduate Supervisor
training course at the University of Exeter, a requirement for any applicants
who don't already have the qualification. The University
training is fully funded and successful candidates are released from the
service to attend the course.
Successful candidates will provide assessments and hold a small caseload
of children and adolescents with mild to moderate emotional and mental health
difficulties, delivering evidence-based 1:1 and group interventions, employing
the principles underpinning the national Children and Young Peoples Mental
Health programme and the Whole School Approach alongside supervising a mix of
Education mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) and Childrens Wellbeing
Practitioner (CWPs).
Main duties of the job
You will need to build relationships with key stakeholders in
educational provisions, to introduce and develop the Whole School Approach,
alongside EMHPs. You will also provide some low-intensity interventions within
a small caseload.
Having the ability to adapt communication and intervention styles to
meet individual needs is important and you will have knowledge of child
development and child safeguarding procedures.
Using both evidence-based practice and routine outcome measures, you
will use a strength-based approach to work collaboratively with young people,
in line with key CYP-IAPT principles.
Key areas of focus for the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) Supervisor
will be:
- EMHP and CWP Support and Supervision
- Delivering early, low-intensity interventions in accordance with the
evidence base
- Building and maintaining relationships with the Designated Mental
Health Lead and other key professionals in our partner schools
- Supporting the development of the MHST and CWP service
- Building positive relationships with our colleagues in wider CAMHS and
other key agencies.

The post holder will deliver high quality comprehensive mental health support
and supervision. The role involves managing a defined caseload with a focus on
providing expert assessment and evidence-based treatment for children and young
people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties and their
parents/carers. The post holder will provide supervision and consultation to school
staff within specific education provisions.
The post holder will contribute to the clinical leadership of the team,
providing supervision and caseload management to the Education Mental Health
Practitioners, Child Wellbeing Practitioners and trainees within the team.
The post holder will be responsible for the clinical supervision and caseload
management of the EMHPs and CWPs within their team. If the successful candidate
doesn't hold the required supervision qualification, then we will provide the
training at Exeter University and the post holder will be released from service
to attend the training, with some additional dedicated study time to ensure the
successful completion of the supervisor course. We will also ensure that your
workload is manageable to complete the training alongside the role. The
supervision training usually runs for a year from either September or January
and we usually have between 2-6 supervisors on each training course. Following
successful completion of the supervisor course, the post holder will receive a
post-graduate certificate in supervision and this is fully funded. The
university timetable usually consists of 1 or 2 teaching days per week to start
with and this then reduces down to 1 teaching day per month with assignments
related to the supervision of EMHPs and CWPs throughout the year. The
supervision course will also provide an overview of the interventions we offer
and shadowing opportunities will be provided as part of your induction.
