Peer Support Worker (Lived Experience)
Devon Partnership NHS Trust
The closing date is 10 May 2024
Job summary
The role of Peer Support Worker (PSW) will form a key part of this important new strategy. As an integral and highly valued member of the multi-disciplinary team and reporting directly to the Team Manager/Practice Leads the PSW will be responsible for peer telephone contact with people who have recently accessed the Single Point of Access and First Response Service; obtaining service feedback within a relationship of mutuality and information sharing. They will provide a safe environment, empowering people to share their experience of how the service responded to their needs and receive support from the Peer Leadership Team.
Main duties of the job
The role of Peer Support Worker has been developed specifically for people who have lived experience of mental health challenges. Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, Peer Support Workers may inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others.
As an integral and highly valued member of the multi-disciplinary team, the PSW will provide formalised peer support to service users in order for them to regain control over their lives and their own unique recovery process. Within a relationship of mutuality and information sharing, they will promote choice, self- determination and opportunities for the fulfilment of socially valued roles and connection to local communities.
There is an expectation that PSWs will be involved in the on-going development of the role. As a core member of the multidisciplinary team, the PSW will work alongside an agreed number of service users on a 1:1 and/or group basis.
The PSW will take a lead role in embedding recovery values within the service setting in which they work. Reporting directly to the Team Manager/Practice Leads and under the professional supervision of the Peer Support Worker Lead, the PSW will be responsible for the delivery of peer support interventions as agreed within the peer relationship.
