Job summary
Redhills House in Exeter offers a welcoming, safe and friendly environment for people who are experiencing a mental health crisis and who need a short period of intensive support away from home.
We are open 24/7 every day of the year.
Ourmain aim is to help you manage and resolve your crisis through assessment and treatment in a homely environment
Main duties of the job
The support worker will assist in the day to day running of the Crisis
House environment and will ensure that all service users maintain their
activities of daily living.
The support worker will be supervised by the Home Manager and will be
closely supported as necessary in the management of risks and the deteriorating
service user, by the Home Treatment team.
The support worker will have clear pathways of escalation and will work
within the bounds of existing DPT policies and procedures as required.
The Post Holder will be able to demonstrate excellent communication
skills with both services users, carers and organisations. You will be highly
motivated and display a good ability to work autonomously where possible.
The support workers will work with service users with the full range of
mental health diagnoses who find themselves in a crisis and access Redhills
House as an alternative to hospital. Working very closely with the Home
Treatment Team who provide clinical direction and support.
The support worker will be proactive in seeking out the positive support
networks available in the community for each individual which may help them in
their recovery.

clinical formulation and delivery of individuals recovery care plans.
Supporting
service users to maintain their activities of daily living needs and where
required supporting the provision of food, fluids and basic care needs.
Participation

running of group and individual 1-1 activities, offering time in positive

referral of service users to those best able to help them and to assist in
updating team knowledge of community resources.

Qualifications
Essential
- Basic Education
- NVQ level 3, QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification.
- If equivalent qualification is not already obtained, to complete QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care within 12 months of commencing employment.
- Other evidence of training or development relevant to working within mental health settings.
- Previous employment / experience of working with people in a caring situation or previous experience working in a different role within mental health services
- Previous care experience with people who have Mental Health difficulties.
- Knowledge of mental health and a basic understanding of physical health presentations.
- Awareness of safeguarding principles
- Demonstrate an ability to make and sustain professional therapeutic relationships
- Good communication and listening skills
- Ability to work with people in a group and individual basis
- Good written communication.
- Able to work in a team effectively
- Demonstrate an ability and awareness to maintain personal boundaries
- Problem solving skills
- Able to plan work, time management, completing records and recording observations etc.
