Job summary

Child and Family Health Devon (CFHD) is thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team as a permanent Band 8b Service Manager for the Mental Health Support Team (MHST). In this pivotal role, you will oversee the MHST service, working collaboratively with the CFHD Heads of Service to drive operational excellence.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and resilient professional with exceptional operational skills and experience. As the Band 8b Service Manager for MHST, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the timely and effective response of the service to meet the mental health needs of children, young people, and families. Your outstanding communication skills, coupled with a compassionate focus on improving mental health services, will be essential in leading through change and piloting new innovations across Devon.

Working closely with CFHD clinical leads, you will bring your operational expertise to supervise and manage the team. Your role will involve fostering a collaborative environment, where operational management, leadership, and a commitment to outstanding care are paramount. Remaining calm and compassionate under pressure, you will have a keen eye for data and a strong focus on performance improvement.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be based at one of our CFHD sites, including Barnstaple, Tiverton, Exeter, Dartington, or Torbay. While there is an expectation of being on-site with the team for part of the time, we recognize the importance of flexibility and can support some remote working as part of your job plan.

Job responsibilities

To deputise for the Heads of Pathways and have shared responsibility for the mobilisation and operational leadership, management, quality, staff, finances and performance of nominated service areas, focussed on delivering transformational change and service level improvements. Typically, these teams will include medical, nursing, AHP and clinical leads. To significantly contribute to the overall Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) strategy/policy to ensure that the service delivers its quality, people, finance and performance objectives. To provide strong operational leadership across an integrated provision of care delivering on the effective management of demand and capacity and ensuring appropriate processes are embedded to deliver outstanding care to children and young people in Devon.

Within this role the post holder will:

Provide leadership management within specific areas and pathways of care.

To operate as a senior member of the senior leadership team within Children and Family health Devon (CFHD) and contribute to the senior manager out of hours on call duty system.

Ensure the effective and efficient delivery of care pathways through the service including triage, assessment, treatment, and discharge of children and young people across a range of care pathways.

Work in partnership with the clinical lead, operational leads and other clinical leaders, to maintain a culture within the service of excellence in clinical standards and safety.

Operate as a senior leader within the multi-agency network of childrens services in Devon and Torbay to ensure the service is delivered as part of an integrated system of care to improve health outcomes for Devon and Torbay children and young people.

Ensure the transformational service model is delivered to meet key performance targets as outlined in the Outcomes Framework.

To ensure a culture where children, young people and their families/carers and the public are involved in the decision-making processes of services and in the wider context of the Alliance

To participate in all discussions and decision-making processes that relate to the strategic plans, liaising closely with, and ensuring these augments with the Alliance.

To promote patient and public involvement in all areas of responsibility

Ownership of system relationships with commissioners, STP and other community partners. Oversee the provision of a range of early help/light touch interventions across pathways such as emotional health and well-being, sensory issues, positive behavioural support.

To collaborate effectively with patients/service users/carers, health and care economy partners, and other key stakeholder groups about the performance and delivery of the alliance and future plans.

Attend, participate and chair relevant meetings with the ability to present information in a range of formats, adapting communication to meet the needs of others.

To ensure that children and young people get heard, get support and get on.

To ensure that services are of high quality and continual PDSA (Plan, Do, Study, Act) processes are in place for continual review and improvement. To act up for the Managing Partner where required.
