Doctor in Intellectual Disability Psychiatry covering Exeter and East Devon. The post holder will be
based at Franklyn House, Exeter (where the Exeter half of the team are based) with secondary bases at Whipton Hospital, Exeter as well as work from St, Michaels, Honiton (where the East Devon Half of the
team are based).
We are interested in recruiting an
enthusiastic and dedicated Specialty Doctor, who is interested in shaping the
future in terms of their career and the provision of services. The post holder
is expected to help maximise the access of people with intellectual disability
to the services and resources available from mainstream Mental Health and other
services through such devices as collaborative/joint working. The role of the
Specialty Doctor is to support the Consultant in their role as the clinical
lead of the team.
Main duties of the job
The post holders responsibilities will
be to provide psychiatric services to adults with Intellectual Disabilities
under the care of the community based Exeter and East Devon Intensive
Assessment and Treatment Team (IATT). In addition there is a 5 bedded assessment and treatment unit for individuals with
Learning Disability called the Additional Support Unit, located in Exeter Adjacent
to Whipton Hospital. The post holder will be expected to support their
supervising consultant with in-reach into the unit when patients from his/her
areas are admitted to the unit to work alongside the inpatient MDT.
Occasionally with reasonable adjustment some adults with Learning Disability
are admitted to mainstream acute mental health wards. In-reach to such units to
provide specialist expertise is a core role of the post holder.
Regular supervision will be provided
by Dr Claire Frances Smith the Consultant Psychiatrist in Intellectual
Disability (1.0WTE) who also works across both teams. The post holder will have a commitment to collaborative working and
actively supporting and liaising with other health and social professionals and
agencies as well as have good relationships with mental health services.
