Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic individuals to join our inpatient specialist dementia ward based in Exeter. Whether you are newly qualified, hold years of experience or are simply looking for a change in career we are looking to appoint people who are passionate about nursing. Belvedere Ward provides high quality of care and treatment for people who have complex health needs and a cognitive impairment. We provide a multi disciplinary assessment of patient need to inform their current needs and future care needs.

The team are an enthusiastic and highly motivated team, with a passion for working with older adults. We work closely as a multi-disciplinary team and work well together allowing us to better support our patients and one another. We aim to support the overall health and wellbeing of our staff, keeping them physically and psychologically well which is important in these current times.

Main duties of the job

This is a great opportunity to join a well-established team, who work together to deliver high quality service to all patients. Job Purpose

  • To assess care needs, develop, implement and evaluate individual care plans.
  • To provide named nurse role to people who use our service.
  • to work alongside families and carers to provide person centred care and to meet the needs of our patients and others that are important to them
  • To participate in the internal rotation system including weekend working

Duties and Responsibilities include

  • To be a proactive, skilled member of the ward Multi-Disciplinary team
  • To demonstrate effective leadership and assist with providing advice and guidance to non qualified staff and students.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of ordering, storing and administering required medications
  • Knowledge of possible side effects of medication
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1987 (including updates)
  • Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act & Deprivation of Liberty safeguards

Desirable

  • Knowledge and skills in providing supervision
  • Knowledge of CPA (Care Programme Approach)
  • Multi-Disciplinary Working
  • Understanding of Recovery principles in Mental Health
  • Knowledge and understanding of both adult and childrens safeguarding guidance

Qualifications

Essential

  • RMN/ Registered Nurse (Mental Health) with current NMC registration.
  • A willingness to complete Trust Mandatory Courses (will be required to complete and undertake relevant Physical Interventions training with adjustments considered if required)

  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to form positive therapeutic relationships with service users, carers and other professional bodies.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Ability to engage in and lead (when required) MDT meetings
  • Ability to assess situations, make decisions, co-ordinate and organise appropriate responses.
  • Have an awareness and ability to maintain personal boundaries.
  • Able to risk assess
  • To be able to plan and implement all aspects of nursing skills.
  • To demonstrate effective leadership skills, promote effective role model across the ward environment.
  • To attend Mandatory Training for restraint, Breakaway, Manual Handling etc.
  • To be able to work on the internal ward shift rotation which includes night duties
  • To work to the Trust Data Protection and Confidentiality guidance/policy
