Job summary
We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and innovative forward thinking Speech and Language Therapist to lead the further development of the Learning Disability Speech and Language Therapy service both in community and inpatient settings.
This post is a part time 0.5 wte (18.75 hours) per week post
The successful candidate will lead the development of the Speech and Language Therapy team for our new regional learning disability and autism unit which is due to open in June 2025. This state of the art facility will deliver high quality mental health services to adults with a learning disability and/ or autistic adults.
Due to the large geographical area of work suitable access to transport will be required.
Interview date is scheduled for Monday 4th December 2023
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be a member of the senior management team for the learning disability service and contribute to ongoing service developments, provide leadership and clinical support to speech and language therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team in partnership with colleagues.
The successfull candidate will also have
significant experience and be highly skilled in the management of a specialist
caseload of adults with severe and complex learning disabilities who have
additional health needs in a variety of settings.The post
holder will be skilled at utilising specialist evidence based assessment and
outcome measurement.

Job Purpose
To provide operational and strategic management plus professional leadership for the Learning Disability Health Service by:
1. Leading the planning, development, delivery and review of Learning Disability Speech and Language Therapy health services within Intensive Assessment and Treatment Teams, the current Additional Support Unit and then the new regional Learning Disability and Autism 10 bedded inpatient unit.
2. Providing professional leadership and management support to Speech and Language Therapy staff or others in conjunction with Clinical Team Leads as required
3. Managing a very limited highly complex caseload

- Deal sensitively with highly complex, emotional and sensitive information from people with a learning disability, their carers, staff groups and other stakeholders, using a variety of communication tools as required
- Establish and participate in communication networks to promote collaborative working, effective performance and delivery of services to adults with learning disabilities
- Demonstrate highly developed written, verbal and presentation skills
- Relay key messages between the learning disability senior management team and a range of professionals within the learning disability service, the wider Trust and external agencies
