We are searching for aspiring apprentices who would like to develop a career within our mental health services. Our Nursing Associate Programme offers you the chance to achieve a professional qualification that forms part of the nursing family as a registered practitioner with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. This qualification also forms part of our career pathway to train to become a Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse, to enable you to build a career in one of the UKs most progressive Trusts.

In partnership with Plymouth University, you will join us as a Trainee Nursing Associate and over two years will undertake the NMC approved Foundation Degree that leads to the professional qualification. You will be employed by the Trust, working in one of our in-patient Services across Devon. Alongside the weekly study day with the University which will be take place in Exeter, you will have dedicated time in your working week to achieve the required competencies of the role over the course of the Programme

Main duties of the job

Job Purpose

The Nursing Associate will work as part of the team, delivering evidence based health and social care that focuses on the holistic needs of service users. They will carry out specific clinical tasks and responsibilities as delegated by registered practitioners.

If shortlisted, the recruitment process will involve:

Mandatory attendance at a virtual briefing session, delivered by the Trust and University of Plymouth on 23rd or 24th October 2023delivered via MS Teams

Joint Interviews carried out virtually with the University are expected to take place between 9th-10th November 2023

The academic programme has a start date of March 24although we will aim to have apprentices in post within the Trust before this date.

Due to the current Government eligibility criteria for Government funded apprenticeship schemes, we are currently only able to accept applications from candidates over the age of 16 who have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years, and who are not already in any form of Government funded education.

  • English and Mathematics at GCSE grade C/4 or Functional or Key Skills at Level 2.
  • Evidence of recent study to level 3. Applicants with previous study at level 4 or higher will be considered on an individual basis.
