Job summary

We are seeking a motivated data scientist with the ability to influence and apply their learning to mental health, the post will have strong ties to Exeter University's PenCHORD to enable regular professional development and collaboration.

Devon Partnership NHS Trust's ambition is to develop information approaches to support care and clinical practice with data science being a key strategic priority. This post is to lead and build the data science and operational research capability of the Trust.

The successful candidate will be joining us at an exciting time within a newly transformed Data and Analytics team and will provide opportunity to influence improvements in mental health and learning disability care across the Devon Integrated Care System. The post will lead in building data science capability within DPT.

Working with technical, operational and clinical teams, they will have a good range of understanding in data science techniques. It will be essential to have experience using such tools as, excel, R, Python, SQL Queries, Power BI and other reporting tools.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated data scientist to apply their learning to mental health, with plenty of opportunity for system working. Excellent communication skills are required.

Main duties of the job

Be responsible for delivering data science projects alongside stakeholders.

Lead in the data science strategy across the Trust.

Develop and deploy intelligent modelling and predictive systems using advance techniques and programming such as R and Python.

Continually devevlop own skills and the Data & Analytics team's skills to ensure data science becomes embedded.

Promote data science across the trust and local community and build relationships to provide the best data science solutions possible.

  • Postgraduate degree in management science, operational research, analytics, data science or similar discipline,
  • formal training in data modelling or equivalent experience

Experience

  • Considerable experience working as an Information Analyst or equivalent experience in a role which is focused on data science and analysis
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques, simulation, optimisation and advanced multivariate statistics
  • Experience of analysing, processing, and modelling data.
  • Experience in developing decision-analytic models in relation to healthcare and public health problems, particularly involving interactive working with clinicians and policy makers to address emerging aspects of a policy decision
  • Experience of using Free and Open Source frameworks.
  • Proficiency in one or more computer programming language (preference for R, or Python)
  • Understanding of and significant experience of relational databases
  • Experience of SQL Server including SQL query writing skills
