Jasmine Lodge is an 8 bedded acute mental health inpatient ward. We
offer admission to women who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health
difficulties, admission is conjoint admission with their baby to avoid
separation.
Jasmine Lodge aims to provide a place for mothers and their baby to feel
safe, hopeful, empowered and included at a time of acute distress. We endeavour
to engage with wider support networks and to promote a nurturing relationship
between mothers and their babies.

Prior experience of working within inpatient mental health services is desirable.
You will be expected to follow infection control precautions, this means
you should come to work "bare below the elbows" including rings
watches and nail varnish. Due to covid19 you will be required to wear a
surgical face mask and eye protection for the duration of your shift. You may
also be involved in nursing someone with covid19.
Main duties of the job
Your day to day role will include providing emotional and practical support to mothers in distress and supporting mothers to problem solve. You will be expected to provide practical and physical care to babies including changing nappies, bathing, and feeding, therefore prior experience of this is desirable. This could be in a group or a 1:1 basis depending on the needs of the mother & baby.
You will be expected to accompany mothers & babies on leave from the hospital, for local walks or home leave, and you will be expected to support in group therapeutic activities to aid recovery and rehabilitation. This also ensures that the babies get the best start in life and support the mothers to continue to engage in the activities she may have wanted to if she was not needing hospital admission.

To be fully aware of each womans recovery
care plan and be involved in clinical formulation and delivery of allocated
womens recovery care plans.

To participate fully in the allocated
/associate nurse role.

Participation in the delivery of
therapeutic interventions, - assisting / facilitating in the running of group
and individual 1-1 activities, offering time in positive activity and
engagement.

Participate in procedures involving
intensive engagement and care of women who are distressed and / or verbally
or physically aggressive.

To provide support with daily living
skills.

Assist in all aspects of physical nursing
care under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Be able to recognise signs of abuse and
know procedures they need to follow to escalate their concerns.

Provide regular and practical support to
individuals and their carers.

To maintain the dignity and wellbeing of
women, their babies and their carers at all times.
