Job summary

We are very pleased to be able to advertise three substantive psychology/psychological therapist posts as part of an expanding Psychology & Psychological Therapies team. We are looking for three enthusiastic Band 8a Clinical/Counselling Psychologists or Psychotherapists to join the South Devon Psychology & Psychological Therapies team. Two of these posts would be working in Teignbridge and South Hams (based at Newton Abbot) and one of the post would be working in Torbay area (based at the Torbay wellbeing Hub).

It is an exciting time to join our well-established team as mental health services become more integrated within the wider community and you can play an important role in the local implementation of the Community Services Framework.

This post will develop your skills in leadership, working creatively in these unprecedented times, MDT working and working with complex clients.

We are a supportive team and we place a lot of importance on the health and wellbeing of all our staff. We meet regularly as a team and there is often a lively discussion about issues relating to the consistent provision and development of our services. There are also opportunities for CPD and networking with psychologists and psychotherapists from other services across South and West Devon.

Main duties of the job

You will contribute to the delivery of high quality psychologically informed practices working closely with the local Community Mental Health Teams. You will be offering assessments and therapeutic interventions to clients with severe and complex mental health problems. There will be opportunities for both individual and group work. The role is dynamic and will require you to attend multidisciplinary meetings and to offer supervision, consultation and training to the local CMHTs.

We are extremely keen to provide all our staff with opportunities for Continued Professional Development and encourage applicants to cultivate areas of established or emerging special interests. Supervision and professional support will be provided by senior members of the team. There will also be opportunities to work alongside colleagues from a wide range of different backgrounds. As a service we offer a number of therapeutic modalities including CBT, CAT, DBT, MBT, EMDR, Schema Therapy, Psychodynamic psychotherapy, Family Therapy and Arts therapies.

We are keen to support research opportunities and have good links with the Clinical Psychology Doctoral course at Plymouth Universityand host placements regularly within our team.

4. To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within professional and Trust guidelines as lead specialist.

5. The post holder with receive regular professional and clinical supervision in accordance to Trust policy and to Professional Practice Guidelines set out by the British Psychological Society or appropriate designated Professional Body.

6. Observe, and abide by all relevant Professional Codes of Conduct and Practice including the British Psychological Society or appropriate designated Professional Body.. The post holder will be fully registered with the Health Professions Council as a condition of employment

Duties and Responsibilities

Communication and Working Relationships

Clients, family and carers: To communicate in a highly skilled and sensitive manner with clients who may have specific difficulties in understand and/or communicating and who may be hostile, antagonistic or highly emotionally disturbed.

Multidisciplinary team colleagues: To work closely with colleagues in the multi-professional integrated mental health and wellbeing service on a day to day basis.

Health & social care staff: To communicate with a wide range of health & social care staff in hospital and in community settings in a highly skilled and sensitive manner, complex and sensitive information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under the services care. To provide support & guidance in the application of psychological principles and techniques, and to foster reflective practice.

Senior managers & professional staff: To maintain and build good working relationships with senior professional staff and managers across the Trust. to foster a positive approach to the integrated mental health and wellbeing service and to enable effective negotiation.

Planning and Organisation

The Psychology and Psychological Therapies service: To plan and organise own work within the service setting and to contribute to the development and improvement of provision of psychological services within the commissioned integrated mental health and wellbeing service to best meet the organisations strategy and priorities.

The multidisciplinary service: To provide psychology/therapy supervision to the multi-professional planning, development and promotion of mental health and wellbeing services

Responsibility for Judgement and Analysis

To provide specialist clinical/counselling psychology/psycho-therapeutical expertise and advice.

To provide psychological therapies, developing specialist psychological formulations and assessments of clients, formulating plans for their psychological treatment and implementing specialist psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups. Proficiency in in both individual and group therapy approaches is desirable.

To support the Professional Head, General Manager, Practice and Strategic Development Leads and Professional Leads by undertaking service development and redesign projects and coordinating the resulting work within the team.

To provide complex assessment of specialist conditions

Responsibility for Patient/Client Care, Treatment and Therapy
