for the Specialist Doctor post in Older Peoples Community Mental Health Team
working in North Devon.
This is a full time community post for older people community
mental health services in North Devon. There is 0.4 WTE Consultant cover for
this team and the post holder will work
alongside 0.4WTE Consultant Psychiatrist.
This post is suitable for Specialty Doctor and Associate Specialists in
an existing or post-retirement with a broad level of Older Adult psychiatric
expertise. International candidates are
welcome to apply. Experience of working
in older peoples community mental health services is preferable but support
will be given to doctors wishing to move from other psychiatric specialties or
roles.
Approved Clinician status at appointment is preferable but those who
would be eligible e.g., doctors applying from abroad, will be supported to
obtain this authority.
A mentor and peer group will be provided. You will have 2 Supporting
Programmed Activities (8 hours a week) to support your professional
development, attend your monthly peer group, quarterly medical advisory
committee, and local post-graduate meetings.
Main duties of the job
The post holder
will share clinical leadership with the other senior members of the team and be
responsible for the psychiatric assessment and management of patients referred
to the service through a single point of entry. Referrals are triaged by the
team and allocated according to assessment need. The post holder may wish to be
involved in the triage process.
The post holder will attend the weekly team
clinical meeting which is a priority for planning the weeks work and team
clinical supervision which includes case discussions of new and complex
patients. The post holder will provide expert psychiatric support to the
community team and if necessary, will accompany them on joint visits when they
need medical advice and attend case conferences for complex patients e.g., for
vulnerable adults or safeguarding cases. The team has a duty system, and the
consultant is not expected to respond to all urgent referrals but may need to
be consulted or visit jointly at times with the duty worker.
The Specialist
Doctor is not expected to care co-ordinate patients and therefore should only
carry a small caseload if at all. This is in line with New Ways of Working and
ensures flexibility of response to other team members and a balanced and
healthy workload.
