0.8 WTE - part-time/job-share applicants welcome
Welcome to Devon Partnership Trust! We would
like to invite you to apply for the Consultant Psychiatrist in Older People, working in Torbay Older People Community Mental Health Team,
based at Chadwell Centre, Torquay road, Paignton, TQ3 2DW.
This is a
replacement post as the current post holder had to leave due to family reasons.
Torbay is widely acclaimed nationally and internationally as one of the most
integrated and effective health and social care community systems. It has a
long history of excellent community based services and has worked innovatively
for many years. It continues to be a regional and national leader in developing
new initiatives and ideas. This is true across the whole health and social care
community services and is certainly no less so in older peoples' mental health
services.
The post
exists within the Torbay Community Mental Health Team for Older Adults, a
well-established multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, psychologist,
occupational therapists, and community support workers. This large team is based in the Chadwell Centre,
an excellent facility on the cliff tops in Torbay, with a sea view, served by a
busy bus route. The post holder will
work alongside 1.0 WTE Consultant psychiatrist within the team. This post
covers the Paignton and Brixham areas in Torbay.
Main duties of the job
You will work
closely with the multidisciplinary team. It is recognised that the consultant
needs to work largely through the other team members and will only carry out
initial assessment of particularly complex cases or those in which a medical
viewpoint is essential. Much of your
work will be through other members of the MDT on a consultation basis and by
direct reviews of patients when required.
The team members are of high quality and used to working autonomously
where appropriate, but ready to seek advice when needed.
The team receives around
18 referrals a week and the Consultant would usually carry out one initial
assessments a week, plus several patient consultations at the request of other
team members. Patients will often come
for review to the Chadwell Centre, although some home visits are required.
The post holder will contribute to the South Devon Memory Services by
providing medical leadership to the South Devon Memory Assessment Clinics alongside
five other doctors on a rotational basis. This is usually once a fortnight.
You will participate in the locality- wide section 12 daytime duty rota.
This means approximately once in five weeks you will need to keep your diary
free of booked commitments and attend Mental Health Act Assessments across the
locality on request. You will also take part in on-call rota and other
consultants from the area will be expected to provide cross-cover for leave.
