An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic newly qualified professional to join our CAMHS community team, in Exeter/ East Devon team. We are looking for a Band 5, newly qualified CAMHS Mental Health Practitioner to join our experienced, knowledgeable and friendly CAMHS team.
This post is a great opportunity for a newly qualified professional to gain experience and skills in working with children and young people with complex emotional and mental health needs in the community. We know that moving from student to qualified professional can be an exciting but scary time, we therefore offer, a full programme of support designed to support this transition. Our CAMHS team is a CYP-IAPT service that is part of Children and Family Health Devon and you would be joining us at an exciting time of change as we develop integrated care for children and young people across an alliance of organisations.
Main duties of the job
You will be a newly qualified professional (RMN, Social Work, Occupational Therapy). You will be able to work alongside colleagues in a multi-disciplinary team and develop relationships across agencies to meet the needs of children and families. The ability to adapt communication and intervention style to meet individual need is important and you will need a keen interest in developing your knowledge of child development and child protection procedures.
Using both evidence based practice and routine outcome measures, you will use a strength-based approach to work collaboratively with people, in line with key CYP-IAPT principles. Managing risk and being able to assess mental health presentations in the community is a core part of this role, responding to both urgent and routine, planned and unplanned need. You will be required to work flexibly across a range of clinical, community and home-based settings to meet the needs of the child.
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about working with children/ young people in the community with the confidence to intervene to meet a range of mental health needs and a desire to work with others to continually improve what we do.

Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) comprises an Alliance of six NHS organisations working together to improve health outcomes for children and young people in Devon. We are working closely with other organisations and providers to ensure to deliver locality-placed based, integrated access to all of our services, based on the i-Thrive Framework, in response to wide-ranging consultation with our service users and communities.
CFHD works closely with our local universities of Plymouth, Exeter & the Peninsula Medical School where we support students in clinical training placements and in addition support our own staff to undertake post graduate training. We actively engage service users and their families in co-design which is facilitated by a dedicated young persons lead role who also works closely with Young Devon who provide additional co-design and feedback through the Devon young peoples champions group.
