Job summary
This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a newly qualified or experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Adult Learning Disability Service, Intensive Assessment and Treatment Team (IATT) based at either Franklyn House, Exeter or Phoenix Lane, Tiverton Devon.The posts availability due to progression of previous post holders into specialist OT roles within Devon's IATT services.
The IATTs are established within Devon offering a dynamic and friendly Multi-disciplinary approach to supporting Adults with a learning disability. Occupational Therapy is a large and well respected profession within IATT teams, our work integral to the Learning Disability evidence based care pathways that include; Behaviours that Challenge, Dementia, Mental Health and Complex Physical Health. Occupational Therapy contribute to the formulation and planning of Positive Behaviour Support Plans, memory clinics, STOMP and much more. We have a strong role in supporting the development of capable environments around the needs of our client group. Our core business as Occupational Therapists is specialist assessment and intervention to ensure people are meaningfully engaged in their lives to maximise health and wellbeing promoting engagement in meaningful occupations.
Due to the large geographical area of work suitable access to transport will be required.
Consideration will be given as a 6-12 month secondment opportunity for internal applicants to support personal development.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an imaginative, creative and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to work with adults with a learning disability. You will focus on assessing and providing specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, interventions and/or consultation and advice to support people to be an active member of their home and community, promoting engagement in meaningful occupations.
You will have or willing to develop experience of managing a specialist caseload of adults with severe and complex learning disabilities who have additional health needs in a variety of settings in the community. While working as an autonomous practitioner, you will have access to Specialist Occupational Therapist as required and participate in the Service's formal Professional Supervision & Appraisal Programme.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and develop your skills and knowledge, in a supportive environment. You will have, or a desire to develop, knowledge and skills in relation to relevant occupational therapy models such as the Model of Human Occupation and/or the Model of Creative Ability. Depending upon experience there is the potential to further develop knowledge in the specialist area of sensory processing assessment and intervention.
You will provide management and clinical support to junior Occupational Therapy staff based within the team alongside Occupational Therapy students and apprentices.
