Job summary
We are looking for Principal Clinical
/ Counselling / Forensic Psychologist to join the Prison Mental Health team
based across all three Devon prisons.
We are looking for a Psychologist (Clinical,
Counselling or Forensic) to work within the Prison Mental Health team covering
the three Devon Prisons; HMP’s Exeter, Channings Wood and Dartmoor, where the
centralised team is based at Langdon Hospital in Dawlish.
The Prison Mental Health team is
required to provide a full mental health service at each prison establishment,
including primary and secondary care. A stepped care model of service
intervention is adhered to, and the service is regularly reviewed against the
Royal College of Psychiatrists Standards for Prison Mental Health, which
applicants are welcome to review at their leisure.
There is an already established team
consisting of assistant psychologists, and practitioner psychologists/
psychotherapists who are dedicated to delivering high quality mental health
services to some of the most vulnerable and marginalised service users.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will have a
relevant professional qualification and registration, and have experience of
working with individuals with a range of mental health issues, in mental health
and/or secure services.
You will be skilled in psychological
assessment, formulation and intervention and able to make good use of
supervision to manage the complexity of this work with the service user group.
Experience of supervising others and providing training/teaching is desirable.
The successful applicant will be able
to work well as part of a team in a challenging environment, thinking
creatively about ways of working collaboratively and effectively with partner
agencies. They will be able to work autonomously, within the bounds of the
role, and as part of a psychology team aiming to provide a consistent service
across the three sites.

Essential
- Qualified Clinical Psychologist (D.Clin.Psychol.) or equivalent e.g. Forensic Psychologist or Counselling Psychologist, with eligibility for Chartered Psychologist Status in the British Psychological Society.
- HCPC registration as Practitioner Psychologist
- Further training in forensic psychology or a specialist area relevant to forensic settings.
- Further training in one or more psychological therapies, e.g. CBT, EMDR, CAT, Schema.
