Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen and we are looking for a Band 7 Team Manager who can bring the skills, experience and enthusiasm required to effectively lead and manage others in order to meet the needs of people referred to the Liaison Psychiatry service.

Liaison Psychiatry is the branch of psychiatry that specialises in the interface between medicine and psychiatry.

Liaison Psychiatry Services nationwide are currently experiencing significant investment and we are in the privileged position in Devon of being able to further enhance and develop our already well-established Liaison Psychiatry services.

Main duties of the job

Liaison Psychiatry accept referrals from the District General Hospital (RDUH) via the in-patient wards and the Emergency Department. These include requests for specialist mental health assessment and interventions to people of all ages from 18 to end of life. The mental health presentations of those accessing our services are varied and include self-harm as well as both functional & organic mental illness.

We provide a 7 day per week in-and-out-of-hours comprehensive service to patients, clinicians and carers.

We are seeking a visionary and motivated individual to join us at this exciting time, promoting dynamic and innovative ways of working.

You will have a key role in contributing to the leadership of the service and you will provide line management supervision as well as overseeing all operational aspects of the service. The role will have a clinical component alongside operational management.

You will need experience in clinical practice, supervision and operational line management, including HR processes. Working with other agencies, as part of the wider MDT is an important aspect of this role.

Role Purpose

The post holder will be responsible for the effective operational management of the CORE24 Exeter Liaison Psychiatry (LP) team including line management of staff, financial and performance management. They will use effective leadership, change management and team building skills to monitor, evaluate and develop the service provided.

They will also have direct clinical contact, though this will be reduced.

Job Purpose

Service Delivery & resource management

In partnership with the team consultant psychiatrist, be responsible and accountable for the operational service delivery of the LP team

Be responsible for the management of LP resources to deliver services which meet the required financial performance and quality standards, working effectively with the LP senior management team as required.

Monitor and deliver Health & Social Care performance standards through team dashboards

Agree and implement a budget plan to support the service plan

Devise and implement performance and workforce management arrangements.

Service Design & Development

Working as a key member of the LP Senior Management team to:-

Actively contribute to the design, development and implementation of the service model and delivery specification for the service, based on evidence and best practice guidance within commissioned standards.

Ensure compliance with commissioning standards including response times and the delivery of or referral to appropriate clinical pathways.

Practice quality & workforce development

Ensure compliance with CQC registration and patient safety requirements.

Ensure all individuals receiving services are safeguarded from any harm.

Promote a continuous team and service improvement ethos, challenging traditional methods of core delivery, managing innovation and appropriate change within the team.

Line Management responsibilities

Ensure that all staff are appropriately supervised and appraised and that opportunities for Continuous Professional Development are identified and maximized

Take responsibility for the selection, appointment and retention of team members.

Operationally manage staff attendance, sickness and annual leave for the team

Prioritise own workload and the work of the team

Ensure safe and effective staffing levels

Establish and maintain a free flow of information and communication with staff, including chairing team meetings e.g. governance meetings

Take responsibility for the staffing rota/Health Roster
