Job summary

We are currently looking for a team leader to work in our busy Talking Therapies team in Stevenage.

The Team Leader will work in collaboration with the Operational Manager and fellow team leader to ensure that the highest possible standards of practice and service delivery are maintained. As part of this, the post-holder will have a key role of managing clinical and non-clinical operational systems and processes within the team

They will use their management experience to lead on service changes and developments.

They will lead a multi disciplinary team, with involvement of service coordination, staff wellbeing, supervision, client support, complaints and service improvement

They will have opportunity to maintain a positive and supportive team culture, following trust values and to respond actively to the needs of the team.

Job responsibilities

Operational Management:

This role involves operational leadership of a multidisciplinary talking therapies team team, overseeing care delivery, referral flow, workload distribution, supervision, and clinical governance to ensure safe, effective, and target-driven service provision. It includes managing team resources, rotas, policies, risk, equipment, complaints, and responding flexibly to fluctuations in demand, while deputising for the Operational Manager as required.

Performance Management

This role is responsible for overseeing productivity, capacity, and KPI reporting to ensure effective delivery of the team. Working closely with senior clinicians and the service manager, it provides dynamic management to optimise team performance against agreed targets.

Service Development and Improvement

This role contributes to shaping and delivering the future direction of the service, including service development projects, new talking therapies delivery models, and implementation of the Long Term Plan. It focuses on quality assurance, stakeholder communication, complaints management, and continuous improvement through effective systems, data analysis, and demand management. The post also leads on integrated care pathways with partner organisations to ensure high-quality, efficient service delivery.

Working Relationships and Communication

This role focuses on building and maintaining effective relationships across Trust services and partner agencies to support high-quality, user-centred care. It requires leading and contributing to meetings, communicating clearly with staff and managers about operational priorities, and presenting complex performance information in a motivating way. Strong presentation, facilitation, and engagement skills are essential to encourage collaboration and delivery against targets.

This role involves managing staffing and workforce processes, including sickness absence, recruitment, induction, appraisals, and line management of administrative and data quality staff. It provides operational leadership and professional support to promote staff development, wellbeing, and effective multidisciplinary working. The post also focuses on creating a safe, supportive environment, delivering operational training, and maintaining ongoing personal and professional development.

Financial and Resource Management

This role involves working within a delegated budget and supporting effective management of local resources to ensure high-quality service delivery. As part of the leadership team, it requires strong awareness of financial controls and full compliance with Trust financial policies and procedures.
