An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mental Health Practitioner to join our fantastic Forensic Adolescent Service hosted within our Local Authority Youth Offending Team. This is a one year fixed term position covering maternity leave.
The FAS Mental Health Practitioners are situated within each of the SASH teams in Hertfordshire with the overall aim of providing support to young people with emotional and/or mental health needs, specifically when these needs may be impacting on their offending behaviours. The hope is that this input will help to reduce or prevent any further offending.
Main duties of the job
To review the assessment of young people where concerns have been identified in relation to young offenders mental health needs and carry out assessments where required.? To interview and follow up young people and their families in order to obtain a comprehensive picture of mental health requirements, which will inform an action/treatment plan? To work with families on a voluntary or statutory basis around issues of mental health need.? To carry out individual work with young people and to work with families to diagnose areas of concern and offer brief therapy or assist with making referrals elsewhere in the health system.? To work individually with parents who have received a parenting order from court.? To work in partnership with CAMHS where the young person is engaged with both services and to offer expert advice and support to joint working.? To support the Youth Justice Service with the written production of court reports and be available to give evidence in court? To provide and contribute to risk assessments with clients held within the Youth Justice Service leading on specific areas of expertise and giving highly specialist advice.? Joint work with Responsible Officers to work on specific issues with young people in a time limited agreement.? To work in line with the national standards set for Youth Justice, including data entry into YOIS.

To support the Youth Justice Service with the written production of court reports and beavailable to give evidence in court when required to do so. To provide and contribute to risk assessments with clients held within the Youth JusticeService leading on specific areas of expertise and giving highly specialist advice. To carry out referrals and orders as requested by the Youth Justice Service where thereis a major mental health concern. To contribute to the development and delivery of group work as appropriate, this mayinclude parenting groups or anger management groups. To consult to members of the Youth Justice Service on the mental health needs of Youngpeople referred to the service and to provide joint assessments to inform colleagues workwhere this would be appropriate
