Job summary
We are seeking an energetic, highly motivated and experienced Band 6 Trainee Forensic Psychologist who has the skills and knowledge in the assessment of inpatient units at Little Plumstead Hospital in Norwich looking after service users with learning disability.
Main duties of the job
The Broadland Clinic is a 25 bed unit providing high levels of assessment and intervention to patients with intellectual and other developmental disabilities detained under the Mental Health Act with complex and enduring problems, including criminal offending. The service has a very strong track record of engaging in innovative research with academic partners.

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you would be working alongside qualified psychologists contributing to high-quality individualised psychological service provision including assessment, formulation, individual / group-based therapeutic interventions and consultation under the supervision of a qualified psychologist working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the services policies and procedures. The role will also include assisting in report writing and the completion of risk assessments, as well as clinically related administration and data analysis. You would be supported with regular supervision and training opportunities to facilitate continued professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION TRAINING
Essential
- An upper second-class honours degree or higher in psychology.
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
- MSc in Forensic Psychology accredited by the BPS.
- Working towards registered forensic psychologist status (BPS Stage 2 training). Either currently enrolled or prepared to enrol on a HCPC approved Forensic Psychology Practitioner Programme.
Desirable
- further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Previous experience at assistant psychologist level of working with people with a learning disability who have offended and/or have a mental illness/personality disorder
- Experience of a high standard of report writing including detailed psychological formulations.
- High level communication skills (written and verbal), including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
- Graduate level knowledge of research design and methodology.
- Experience of using computers for databases or dataanalysis, especially SPSS for Windows
- Ability to communicate sensitive information to service users, carers and colleagues.
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with learning disabilities, personality disorder, mental illness or other disabilities.
- An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a forensic learning disability context.

- up to date knowledge of psychological research and national guidance relevant to the client group
- Training in the use of structured risk assessment tools e.g. HCR-20v3/RSVP-V2 ARMIDILO-S
