Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) has a unique and exciting opportunity to be part of the Community Perinatal Team. We are currently expanding the team and are thrilled to offer these full time Perinatal Mental Health Nurse positions.

We are one of the leading Mental Health and Learning Disability Trusts in the UK and rated "outstanding" by the CQC since 2019. The specialist Community Perinatal Team (CPT) was launched in April 2017, to expand our provision of mental health care and services for women with moderate to severe mental illnesses throughout Hertfordshire.

The Community Perinatal Team is a thriving, supportive and well-regarded specialist multi-disciplinary team covering the whole of Hertfordshire. The team comprises of Doctors, Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Parent-Infant Psychologists, Family Therapists, Peer Support workers, Nursery Nurses and team administrators.

Main duties of the job

You would be joining a team committed to:

  • responding to a woman's needs in a timely manner, with the capacity to deal with crises and emergencies, as well as supporting routine and preventative care
  • providing specialist care and support through pregnancy, and up to two years post-natally, to women experiencing significant mental health difficulties associated with the perinatal period
  • working with thefamilies of unwell women, supporting partners and older children and promoting infant mental health and wellbeing
  • completing assessments in a variety of settings, including service user homes, antenatal clinics, outpatient clinics and elsewhere
  • close working with our designated, PQN accredited, mother and baby unit at Kingsley Green, Radlett
  • working collaboratively with colleagues in maternity services, health visiting, family centres and Children's services across the county
  • working collaboratively with a range of adult mental health services to provide support to women with previous or longstanding mental health problems as well as those presenting for the first time in the perinatal period.

About us

You will join the established team with a view to sharing the existing workload which will involve telephone triage screening assessments, routine and urgent initial assessments, care coordination and contributing to the duty rota. Youwill ensure, in collaboration with other clinical colleagues, that professional practice meets standards as set by statute, regulatory and other professional bodies and HPFT.

You will have a sound working knowledge of perinatal mental health problems and experience of assessing and working with service users in a community setting, assessing and managing risk. It is desirable that you have knowledge about infant attachment and/or experience of working with young children.

We have a team base in Watford but work in a remote and agile way across the county. We would particularly welcome applicants to cover the East of the county.
