These are new posts dedicated to supporting care home staff to offer non-pharmacological support, alongside the established HPFT community teams and in conjunction with other agencies. The service will be flexible to the needs of the local care homes across the county. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a new part of the service which will evolve and develop as the service becomes established. If you are passionate about quality care of persons with dementia, creating relationships, supporting development and change then this is the position for you. The deal candidate will need to be able to work as part of a team, whilst maintaining autonomy over their work.
The successful candidate will receive up to £120 towards their registration fee, which will be paid upon commencement. This payment will be subject to tax and national insurance deductions.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will part of a small MDT consisting of a CMHN, an OT, an assistant psychologist and a Band 4 support worker based in the MHSOP to support the work with care homes. They will share knowledge and experience of managing dementia and other mental and physical health difficulties commonly found in older people in long term care. The staff will provide close liaison and expert knowledge to assist care homes in managing complex cases. They will support care home staff to provide non-pharmacological approaches to manage symptoms of dementia by informal training, advice and modelling. The staff will support care homes in preventative work with their residents and help increase awareness of alternative approaches which can maintain someone's longer term function. They will support the liaison with other organisations, families, carers and GPs and provide the opportunities for face to face meetings.
