Job summary

We have an exiting opportunity for an experienced mental health Nurse to join us in our ambition to improve outcomes for older people that are an inpatient within a rehabilitation or intermediate care unit in West Herts.

The successful candidate will receive up to £120 towards their registration fee, which will be paid upon commencement. This payment will be subject to tax and national insurance deductions.

Main duties of the job

You will be an experienced Nurse that is passionate about older people and the care that they receive. You will work for Mental Health Services for Older People, but all of your clinical work will be within physical health hospitals and hospices within West Herts.

You will work autonomously to develop excellent relationships with physical health colleagues, in order to provide a responsive and approachable liaison service. This will include planning your own diary to ensure that people have access to mental health advice and assessment within the hours of operation.

Mental Health Services for Older People is a multidisciplinary service that looks after older people with a functional mental health condition, and people of any age with dementia. The service is divided into four quadrants, with each comprising of a community team, a crisis function and an Early Memory Diagnosis and Support Service. The liaison post is part of the North West quadrant service. There is also a care home function that is managed as a countywide service.

As part of Mental Health Services for Older People you will have regular supervision, and an annual PDP that focusses on your strengths. We also hold regular reflective and teaching sessions.

As this role is autonomous and provides a service to our physical health colleagues, we are able to offer flexible working arrangements - for example, condensing hours, starting/ finishing earlier or later.

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Degree, diploma or equivalent in Nursing (Mental Health Nursing).
  • Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Mentorship Preparation Course.
  • Substantial post registration experience, including experience in Older People's Mental Health Care.

Desirable

  • Diploma, degree or equivalent in Nursing (Adult Nursing)
  • Pre or Post registration training/ short courses in mental health and/ or older people's care
  • Community and InPatient nursing experience.
  • Liaison Mental Health Nursing
  • AMHP qualification
