Job summary
Owl ward are seeking an energetic and highly motivated Band 5 Staff Nurse who would either like to start their career as a preceptorship nurse on an inpatient unit or would like a fresh challenge working in an acute setting.
Owl ward is an 18 bedded male acute mental health treatment ward offering acute mental health care to adults, The ward provides male only accommodation and has a multi-disciplinary team including psychologists, occupational therapy, recreational workers as well as the nursing and medical team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work on Owl ward Acute Inpatient Unit, The unit provides mental health support and care to service users experiencing mental health crisis. They will be a key member of the Inpatient Team acting as the charge nurse for the unit and be responsible / primary nurse for a designated group of patients and will be responsible for the assessment of their needs and for the planning, implementing and evaluation of the care provided to meet those needs.
They will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team liaising closely with other agencies within and outside the ward/unit. The post holder will be leading on shifts on the ward and provide clinical supervision to junior staff members. Excellent communication and relationship management skills are essential to this post. Act as lead nurse for a defined group of patients. Act as the staffnurse for the unit, assess plan, implement and evaluate the care provided especially with regard to identifying and managing risk. Treat patients with fairness and respect, maintaining confidentiality appropriately.
Assist the inpatients manager, the team and charge nurses in maintaining standards of care . To be fully involved in ward rounds, handovers and other meetings where patient care is discussed and reviewed as required. To expedite and participate in the assessment, admission, transfer and discharge of patients according to local guidelines and standards.
