We currently have vacancies for band 6 DBT therapists to join our established DBT programmes in Hertfordshire. This offers an exciting opportunity to join an established group of therapists to offer a quadrant wide therapy service within the community mental health team who provide a local DBT service, as well as joining the wider network of therapists across the trust. The service works to meet the needs of service users who are experiencing significant difficulties with emotional instability and working within the local multi-disciplinary community teams. We pride ourselves on the quality of the service that we offer and place importance on supporting all our therapists to provide great care, with an emphasis placed on maintaining and developing therapist skills and regular supervision.
Main duties of the job
This post would suit someone with a core mental health qualification and registration (including nursing, social work, occupational therapy, or other appropriately registered therapists - see person spec for details) and with an interest of working collaboratively with service users (and their families) to develop their skills to improve their ability to tolerate and manage strong emotion. Also it would suit someone who loves working as part of a therapy team and alongside multidisciplinary colleagues, supporting their practice . We are looking for someone who has experience of working with this service user group in community settings. Ideally they will have experience, or training in DBT or SCM, however we are happy to consider to individuals able to commit to completing such trainings - which will be provided. The post will be based as described, but the ability to work flexibly as the needs of the service demands will be essential. The post holder would expect some travel within their working week.

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Postgraduate qualification in one of the core mental health professions e.g. psychiatric nursing, clinical psychology, medicine, social work or occupational therapy or to have substantial other relevant experience and with demonstrable competence to work in the mental health field.
- AND: . Continuing registration with body overseeing practice of core mental health profession, e.g. NMC or HCPC.
- OR Recognised qualification in Psychological Counselling and current full registration with the UKCP or the BACP.
- AND: Completion of DBT Intensive Training or willingness to train.
AREAS OF EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, adult mental health and in patient settings
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, including adults with personality disorders. Experience across the whole life span presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
- Knowledge of whole life span development and the impact on emotional, psychological and mental well-being
- Experience of multi-disciplinary team working and inter-agency collaboration
- Ability to take the appropriate action to address any issues or risks
- Awareness of Child and Adult Safeguarding Procedures
- Awareness of current NHS initiatives and Developments
- Knowledge and awareness of specific clinical practices and issues relating to clients with mental health problems
- Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team
- Experience of teaching, training and/or offering supervision
- Experience of working in a community mental health setting
