This is a 12 month fixed term maternity leave cover
The post holder will carry a complex caseload; be involved in joint assessments; participate in the Senior Leadership Team; provide support to the MDT in clinical matters and supervise staff where appropriate.
This is a growing sub team within the CPT consisting of one b7 OT, two B6 OTs, one band 4 OTA, one senior peer support worker and two b4 peer support workers. The lead OT will have responsibility for over seeing and directing the team as well as implementing service development strategies.
Main duties of the job
- To provide a high quality Occupational Therapy Service to service users with perinatal mental health problems. This will be achieved through duties and leadership of the Occupational Therapy staff and resources within the perinatal service.
- To manage a caseload, using evidence based/client principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in in-patient and community settings and on home visits.
- To provide group-based interventions.
- To work with the MDT and placement team to ensure appropriately supportive discharge plans and placements are in place for service users moving on from our services.
- To maintain clinical records.
- To develop skills and knowledge.

The Community Perinatal Team will be a specialist multidisciplinary team covering the whole of Hertfordshire, responding to a womans needs in a timely manner, with the capacity to deal with crises and emergencies, as well as supporting routine and preventative care; providing specialist care and support through pregnancy and for up to twos years post-natally to women experiencing significant mental health difficulties associated with the perinatal period. The team will work with the families of unwell women, supporting partners and older children and promoting infant mental health and wellbeing. The team make assessments in a variety of settings, including service user homes, antenatal clinics, childrens centres and outpatient clinics and have close working links with our designated, PQN accredited, mother and baby unit at Kingsley Green, Radlett. The team will work collaboratively with colleagues in maternity services, health visiting, childrens centres and Childrens services across the count. It will also work collaboratively with a range of adult mental health services to provide support to women with previous or longstanding mental health problems as well as those presenting for the first time in the perinatal period.
Adopting the policies and philosophy of the service, the Occupational Therapist will provide OT assessment and treatment using a range of appropriate and evidence based interventions.
The post-holder will be responsible for the clinical and operational day to day service delivery ensuring that an individualised comprehensive assessment and care management is effectively delivered.
To act as a resource for the service, advising staff regarding occupational therapy approaches in the treatment of women with mental health problems, relating to child bearing focussing primarily on the assessment of functional needs.
To act as a clinical expert in occupational therapy interventions within the specialist service; remain clinically up to date, assess service users thoroughly, plan care rigorously and audit and evaluate occupational therapy interventions based on evidence and locally agreed protocols and policy. To provide group-based interventions.
To take a lead role in audits of the service and in supporting the Service Manager to implement service improvements identified through audit.
To carry an occupational therapy caseload as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
