Job summary

Due to exploring new options to provide assessment of dementia for people within Hertfordshire, we are looking to recruit Mental Health Nurses to work in our Early Memory Diagnosis and Support Service (EMDASS) until 31stMarch 2023.We have posts based in Hemel Hempstead, Stevenage and Watford. Our Hemel team see people in the Dacorum and St Albans, our Stevenage team see people in North Herts and Stevenage, and our Watford team see people in Hertsmere, Watford and Three Rivers. Although much of our work is within clinics, we do see people in their own homes, and in other sites - for example GP surgeries, community centres etc.

Main duties of the job

As part of the EMDASS team you will work with a range of other professionals including Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists and Psychologists to assess individuals with memory problems and early stage dementia. Your work will use your expert clinical assessment skills within a clinic setting or in people's own homes to assist with the assessment of dementia. The work will also involve the support of individuals who have recently been diagnosed with dementia. As a team we regularly hold teaching and reflective sessions and look to embed an open culture of learning through our governance. You will have regular supervision, and an appraisal that looks to support your development.As this is a fixed term/ secondment until the end ofMarch 2023, it would be an ideal opportunity for Nurses that wish to explore whether a career in a dementia diagnosis is for you.If you are passionate about caring for people with dementia in the community, we are the right team for you.The core hours for the team areMondaytoFriday9-5. KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Degree, diploma or equivelant in Nursing (Mental Health Nursing)
  • Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Mentorship Preparation Course.
  • Two years post registration experience, with at least one year post registration experience in Older People's Mental Health Care.
  • Post registration course in Dementia
  • Commitment to become nonmedical prescriber
  • Understanding of end of life care in dementia
  • Knowledge of legislation related to mental health and social care (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, National Service Framework, National Dementia Strategy, Care Programme Approach etc)
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel.
  • Ability to manage distressing and challenging situations.
  • Expert clinical skills in dementia care

Desirable

  • Pre or Post registration training/ short courses in mental health and/ or older people's care.
  • Community and InPatient nursing experience.
  • Supervision skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Experience in research
  • Experience in audit.
