Job summary

We are looking for a Clinical Psychologist to work across our Offending Behaviour Intervention Service and the North Hertfordshire Specialist Learning Disability Service. The post is full time but we will consider applications for part time work.

The post holder will be professionally supervised by a senior clinical psychologist and will have the opportunity to be part of a large and active group qualified Clinical Psychologists. The service has strong links with the clinical psychology doctoral training program at the University of Hertfordshire and a strong commitment to supporting on-going continuing professional development.

Main duties of the job

The post will be based across our community based Offending Behaviour Intervention Service (OBIS) and the North Specialist Learning Disability Service (SLDS). The OBISis an integral part of our community based Specialist Learning Disability Service and provides evidence based interventions, therapy and support for people with a learning disability that have had contact with the Criminal Justice System or who present an active and high risk to others. The objectives for the service are to:

  • Reduce the offending and reoffending rates of people with learning disabilities
  • Prevent inappropriate admissions to inpatient services, where risk is indicated, but no mental ill health
  • Increase access to a specialist forensic specialist advice supporting positive practice with service users, rather than containment and restrictive practice
  • Increase the capacity and capability of community providers to work with people with a forensic history or where risks are identified

This is a Band 7 to 8a development post. The post holder will be able to progress from Band 7 to band 8a once they demonstrate that they meet the competencies specified for Band 8a.

Essential

  • Doctoral level qualification in either clinical or Forensic psychology or approved equivalent.
  • Registered as a clinical or forensic psychologist with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Desirable

  • Additional post graduate training or qualification in specific psychological therapy, such as positive behaviour support, psychotherapy or systemic therapy.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of specialist assessment and therapy with service users across a range of care settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of service user groups, presenting problems that reflect a range of clinical severity, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Direct experience of using therapy with people with disabilities.
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
  • Experience of the application of psychological services in different cultural contexts.
