Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for conscientious team players to join the Estates team at the Alexandra hospital as a Caretaker. The trust is introducing a new team, and we are looking for up to 4 candidates on the working rota below. Each candidate will work the rota over the 4 week period and will include working weekends. The total working contract will be 26.25 hours a week.
The candidates must be confident, articulate, flexible , have good organisational skills and be able to maintain high standards of professionalism and confidentiality.

Main duties of the job
To undertake general estates duties acting as the first point of contact for our estates team out of hours. You will be responsible for attending emergency calls relating to fire and any adhoc work that may be required. You will be supported by the on-call estates team.
To work within the Estates & Facilities team to undertake general caretaking and handyperson duties within Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust at Redditch Alexandra Hospital, undertaking tasks in line with relevant policies and procedures. To ensure the completion of caretaking duties and basic maintenance tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
Main duties of the job
Act as the first point of contact for all estates service desk enquiries, and escalate to the team appropriately.
Ensure that the building is well maintained, i.e. heating, lighting, ventilation and fire alarms are operational, assisting with testing where required and reporting any potential hazards or required repairs using designated procedures, and ensuring that all corridors, stairs, stairwells and fire exit doors are kept free from obstructions.
To work as a member of a multidisciplinary maintenance team providing professional and technical expertise with an effective and efficient focus on a service delivery.
Carry out planned preventative maintenance work in accordance with Estates schedules and accepted good working practices in order to ensure safe and reliable engineering services.
Where necessary, carry out fault diagnosis and minor repairs to the hospital estate infrastructure installations and plant, including ventilation, heating, air conditioning, water systems so as to maintain a safe and reliable service.
Become familiar with and when adequately trained carry out basic mechanical & electrical fault diagnosis and repairs
Participate fully in all relevant estates procedures and ensure completion of all necessary documentation in accordance with Estates Department policies.

staff on duties in support of your own.
When required give assistance and support to
other trade disciplines within the Estates Department to ensure an efficient
estates service is provided.
To become fully conversant with the function
of all electrical and mechanical systems within the remit of the Estates
Department.
Provide assistance to other estates &
facilities staff.
When required participate in the gritting and
snow/ice clearance of the Hospital roads and pavements.
Understand and work from engineering and
architectural drawings.
To carry out all duties in a safe manner,
having regard for the safety of others.
Participate with all necessary update and
health & safety training
To carry out routine testing of essential
systems and equipment e.g. fire alarm, nurse call systems, steam raising boiler
plant, hospital generators, etc., recording results in accordance with Estates
Department policy and procedures.
Become conversant with the hospitals Building
Management System to an extent that alarms can be interpreted, actioned and
reset.
Participation in response/emergency teams for
fire, major incident and any other requiring an Estates Department input.
When required drive the Trust vehicles.
To assist in the upkeep of a small material
store and to identify and if necessary order components required to complete
repairs.
To be responsible for the upkeep, tidiness and
maintaining of a safe working environment in the workshops and engineering
plant rooms.
To liaise closely with all modern matrons,
ward sisters and heads of departments with regards to estates maintenance and
other relevant estates matters.
